GHANA 2022: WHAT TO EXPECT

The Total Package: Sample itinerary

Note: We will do our best to stay as close to the sample itinerary as possible. The final events during December have not yet been confirmed and we will need to be flexible to make sure we can provide the best experience possible.

  • Our first day in Accra. Most travelers arrive in the early afternoon and will be greeted by our airport transfer van and Rove teammate. Once at the hotel, they can check in, unpack and unwind. We’ll kick things off with a welcome dinner and head out on the town to some of Accra’s mainstays like Purple Pub. For those with the energy to keep the night going, we’ll continue the party at one of Accra’s top nightclubs.

  • After sleeping in and recovering from jet-lag and a night of partying, we’ll take a quick tour of Accra, seeing some of the main tourist sites such as the Independence Square and Kwame Nkrumah Memorial. This will help orient you around the city for the rest of your trip. We’ll then head out for a nice dinner before heading out for the night.

  • During the day, we’ll provide some recommendations of places to explore if you want to do some shopping or try some local restaurants and cafes. In the afternoon, we’ll start to get ready for Afrochella and begin pre-gaming. The festival runs late into the night, don’t mind the start time on the flyer. After a VIP experience at Afrochella, we’ll head out to an afterparty to cap off the night.

  • After breakfast, we’ll head to Aburi Gardens, one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in Ghana. There, we’ll learn about the diverse agriculture and history of the region before setting off on ATVs to explore a nearby waterfall and catch some thrills. We’ll return in the evening, grab dinner and attend one of Accra’s premiere parties.

  • One of the highlights of our trip—the naming ceremony. A small village in the Eastern region of Accra will welcome us in and give each Rover a traditional Ghanaian name and welcome them into their community. We’ll follow the ceremony with some community service, giving back to the village that welcomed us in. After, we’ll head to our exclusive ROVE Boat Party.

  • Rest and recovery is the name of the game here. We’ll go out for a group lunch before heading to the beach side to hang before kicking off the night’s festivities. We’ll put on our best outfits and kick things off with a ROVE Official Pregame with open bar prior to heading to the top NYE event in Accra.

  • On New Year’s Day, we’ll head outside Accra to Kokrobite beach—a beautiful beach known for its Rastafarian culture and surfing community. We’ll stay overnight at one of the resorts in the area and catch some R&R, sip some great drinks and treat ourselves to the spa.

  • In the morning, we’ll head to the Canopy walk at Kakum forest. Here we’ll cross and incredible rope bridge hanging above the rainforest. After that, we will head toward Elmina Caste, one of the largest slave castles in Ghana. This somber but incredibly important tour will provide an opportunity to truly understand the atrocities endured, but also return to the place that many of our ancestors called the “Door of No Return” and reclaim that power.

  • Batik is a style of wax print fabric popular across Africa and Asia. You’ll recognize Batik prints on many of the dresses and outfits worn by local Ghanaians. We’ll have the chance to make our very own Batik fabric from scratch. Later that evening, we’ll have our farewell party where we’ll play various games and give out a series of awards to our travelers.

  • Time to say goodbye. We’ll provide some options to do some last minute souvenir shopping or try one more taste of Ghana’s delicious food before departing. Our air-conditioned transportation will bring our guests and their luggage to the airport with plenty of time to make it through security.
